Profile

Prof. Dr. Aynur Ünal is the Strategic adviser and Visiting Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Guwahati. She is the former Dean of Engineering and Technology of Ansal University, Gurgaon, New Delhi and Lucknow and built a product focus engineering program using the cloud based infrastructure. Ecologically and Socially responsible engineering, Zero waste Initiative and Sustainable Green Engineering with Rural e-health, e-services such as digital nursing, care-on-wheel and early diagnostics are some of the programs she has led with her students. Her vision of Open Innovation using Digital Monozukuri is accepted by Prime Minister Modi to be implemented everywhere in India.

Dr Ünal’s research focuses on both, rural and urban sustainable development, renewable energy, solar towers, solar pumps, designing for zero waste, new product development, micro and nano medical devices and systems. Sustainability of Built Environment, sustainable materials, Innovative Air Conditioning, Positive Energy Design, Habitats for Green Living, Roof Top Gardens and Landscape Design for Air Conditioning, Nano- Composite Materials in Nano-devices. She is interested in women’s health, education and empowerment and the assessment of urban policies related to cultural heritage conservation, cultural diversity, sustainable cultural tourism and energy efficiency. She is a member of the organizing committee of the International Conference of Sustainability in Istanbul, November 5-8,http://icsid.arel.edu.tr. She is the founder of Digital Monozukuri, http://dm.amidstsky.com which is the engine for her OPEN INNOVATION vision.

She has taught at Stanford University, and worked in Silicon Valley to develop new software products for data mining from big data (Triada’s Athena I & II, now in SAP), Collaborative Design and Manufacturing (www.e2open.com, acquired for 480 M US$), secure and private communication and collaboration software platforms (Amteus, listed in LSE AIM) for  on line financial services, health services and manufacturing services and most recently on line learning systems (Ansal University). She is interested in connecting the product based engineering education to incubation and start up dynamics to create the engines for the economic development.
